Earthquake devastation in Nepal
Currently, Nepal is at mourning from the 7.8 Richter Scale
magnitude of the Earthquake, with epicenter of Barpak, Gorkha. According to the Home Ministry as of May
5, 2015, so far 7557 people have died, 14536 wounded and still hundreds
are disappeared through the earthquake and it’s aftershocks. Likewise a
total of 191058 houses were completely destroyed and 175162 were
partially damaged. A total of 10744 government buildings were flattened
while 14741 were damaged partially as of May 2, 2015. There are also
reported cases of 16000 schools being damaged and 8.1 million people
needing assistance.
So far, Kathmandu looks like almost a dead city (not much vehicles are moving, many people left Kathmandu and went back homes, many offices are not opened, markets and shops are largely closed). It is sad to see everywhere ruins and debris. The rich cultural heritages and UNESCO sites of Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur as well as out of valley are totally damaged.
